SUMMER LECTURE SERIES TO FOCUS ON LEADERSHIP, EDUCATION

AMES, Iowa -- A lecture series on leadership and education will be hosted by Iowa State University's College of Family and Consumer Sciences this summer. All lectures are at 7 p.m. in Benton Auditorium, Scheman Building. The lectures are free and open to the public.

On July 16, Virginia Clark Johnson, dean of the College of Human Development and Education at North Dakota State University, Fargo, will present "Leadership: Up Close and Personal." Her research focuses on leadership and distance education.

On July 23, Penny Ralston, dean of the College of Human Sciences at Florida State University, Tallahassee, will present "Sustaining the Profession in the 21st Century: The Importance of Capacity Building." Ralston is a former Iowa State faculty member. Her research focuses on program development, including the development and use of community-based organizations by older people and the development of higher education programs, especially for underserved students.

On July 31, Laurie Stenberg-Nichols, dean of the College of Family and Consumer Sciences at South Dakota State University, Brookings, will present "Innovative Collaborative Program Development." She has secured grants to collaborate with South Dakota tribal colleges in the areas of nutrition and early childhood education.
