ISU COLLEGE OF BUSINESS DEAN CANDIDATES NAMED

AMES, Iowa - Three candidates for the dean of the College of Business have been named at Iowa State University.

The candidates are Kenneth R. Evans, associate dean, Graduate Studies and Research, at the University of Missouri-Columbia; Ronald P. Hill, professor of social responsibility at the Pamplin School of Business Administration, University of Portland, Ore.; and James L. Koch, director of the Center for Science, Technology and Society at Santa Clara University, Calif.

The three candidates will be on campus in March and April. Open forums have been scheduled for each. All the forums will be in 205 Carver Hall at 3:30 p.m.

Kenneth R. Evans Kenneth R. Evans
Evans has been associate dean of Graduate Studies and Research at the University of Missouri-Columbia since August 1997. He served as acting dean from July 1999 to December 1999. He has been on the business faculty of the University of Missouri since 1991. Prior to this, he was on the business faculty at Arizona State University, Tempe, from 1980 to 1991. His research interests are interpersonal influence, sales management, services marketing and marketing management and theory. He earned a B.B. in 1972 from the University of California, Davis; an M.B.A. in 1977 from California State University, Sacramento; and a Ph.D. in 1980 from the University of Colorado, Boulder.

Ronald P. Hill Ronald P. Hill
Hill has been the Rev. John B. Delaunay, C.S.C. Professor of Social Responsibility at the Pamplin School of Business at the University of Portland since 2001. He was founding dean and professor of business administration at the Pamplin School of Business from 1996 to 2001. Prior to this, Hill was on the faculty of Villanova (Penn.) University College of Commerce and Finance from 1989 to 1996, serving as chair of the department of marketing from 1991 to 1996. From 1983 to 1988, he was on the faculty of The American University (Washington, D.C.) Kogod College of Business Administration. His research examines such issues as ethics in business, global poverty and the technological divide, and behavior and accessibility of consumers with impairments. He earned a B.S. in 1976, an M.B.A. in 1978 and a Ph.D. in 1984 from the University of Maryland.

James L. Koch James L. Koch
Koch has been director of the Center for Science, Techology and Society at Santa Clara University since July 1997. He also is a professor of management at Santa Clara. Prior to this, he served from 1990 to 1996 as dean of the Leavey School of Business and Administration at Santa Clara University. He also held faculty positions in business at the University of Oregon, Eugene, and has worked in the private sector, including several years with Pacific Gas and Electric, San Francisco. His research examines information technology and organizational change, social capital, and the psychological sense of community in the workplace. He earned a B.A. in 1966 from San Francisco State University, and an M.B.A. in 1968 and Ph.D. in 1972 from the University of California, Los Angeles.

The new dean succeeds Ben Allen, who was appointed interim vice president of external affairs in 2001. Allen will return to the business faculty this year. Labh Hira, professor of accounting, is serving as interim dean.
