STATE SCIENCE FAIR ENTRIES DUE MARCH 11

AMES, Iowa -- Entry forms for the 2002 State Science and Technology Fair of Iowa are due March 11. The science fair, April 9 and 10 in Hilton Coliseum at Iowa State University, is the only statewide science fair for middle and high school students in Iowa.

Last year, approximately 100 high school and 250 junior high students from around the state participated in the science fair, said Andrea Spencer, director of the fair. This will be the first year the fair will be opened up to 6th grade student projects, and there will be special awards given to the top junior high school science projects, Spencer added.

Projects are divided into physical and biological science categories and each must adhere to the guidelines of the science fair committee, Spencer said. High school winners receive scholarships, while 6th-9th grade students receive various prizes and awards from the state science fair. State, federal, university and industry groups also provide prizes for the winning projects.

For more information about the fair, contact Andrea Spencer, SSTFI, 61375 270th Ave., Palmer, IA 50571; (712) 359-2437; spencer2@netins.net; or visit the SSTFI website at http://www.public.iastate.edu/~isstf/.
