RONALD HILL NAMED ISU COLLEGE OF BUSINESS DEAN

AMES, Iowa -- Ronald P. Hill, professor at the Pamplin School of Business Administration, University of Portland, Ore., has been named dean of the College of Business at Iowa State University.

Hill will start his new duties at Iowa State on July 1.

"I am very pleased to announce the appointment of Ronald Hill as the new dean of our College of Business," said Gregory Geoffroy, Iowa State president. "He brings to Iowa State a strong background of experience at some of the country's leading business programs. The work he is doing in business ethics, poverty and social responsibility in business is significant and timely."

Hill has been the Rev. John B. Delaunay, C.S.C. Professor of Social Responsibility at the Pamplin School of Business Administration at the University of Portland since 2001. He was founding dean and professor of business administration at the Pamplin School of Business Administration from 1996 to 2001. Prior to this, Hill was on the faculty of Villanova (Penn.) University College of Commerce and Finance from 1989 to 1996, serving as chair of the department of marketing from 1991 to 1996. From 1983 to 1988, he was on the faculty of The American University (Washington, D.C.) Kogod College of Business Administration.

His research examines such issues as ethics in business, global poverty and the technological divide, and behavior and accessibility of consumers with impairments. His most recent publications have included on "Stalking the Poverty Consumer: A Retrospective of Modern Ethical Dilemmas" and "How can Retailers Enhance Accessibility? Giving Consumers with Visual Impairments a Voice in the Marketplace."

He earned a B.S. in 1976, an M.B.A. in 1978 and a Ph.D. in business administration in 1984 from the University of Maryland.

The new dean succeeds Ben Allen, who was appointed interim vice president of external affairs in 2001. Allen will serve as provost of Iowa State beginning June 1 while a search is conducted for a permanent provost. Labh Hira, professor of accounting, is serving as interim dean of business.

The College of Business was created in 1984. It is the third largest college at Iowa State with a fall 2001 enrollment of more than 4,000 students. The college is expected to move into its new home, the Gerdin Business Building, in fall 2003. The building project was launched with a $10 million gift from Russ and Ann Gerdin of Coralville.
