IOWA STATE'S FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS WILL BE DEC. 4

AMES, Iowa -- Iowa State University's Festival of Lights will be at 5:15 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 4, on the front steps of Beardshear Hall. ISU carillonneur Tin-shi Tam will provide music, and cookies and hot chocolate will be served.

The program will include music by ISU choir members, the lighting of thousands of decorative lights and brief remarks by Iowa State President Gregory Geoffroy and T.J. Schneider, Government of the Student Body president.

Central campus sidewalks will be lined with luminaries. Live reindeer will be tethered on the MacKay south lawn and horse-drawn wagons will carry guests around central campus until 7 p.m. Following the program, there will be open houses at the Campanile (until 7 p.m.) and the Farm House Museum (until 7:30 p.m.).

The University Book Store will have an open house all day. The Horticulture Club will sell poinsettias from noon to 7:30 p.m., treats from the Memorial Union Catering Service will be served from 4 to 7 p.m., and children's stories will be read from 6 to 7 p.m.

Youngsters also can listen to stories in the atrium of the Palmer Building from 6 to 6:45 p.m. A holiday display at Reiman Gardens will be from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. ($5 for adults, $2 for children ages 7 to 17, and free for ISU students and children younger than 6).
