SEPT.11 REMEMBERED WITH MEDITATIVE SOUND EXPERIENCE

AMES, Iowa -- Ashes to Ashes/Dance Driving, a meditative "sound scape" based on the recollections of World Trade Center witnesses and survivors, will be presented Wednesday, Sept. 11, as part of Iowa State University's commemorative events. The sound scape will be from noon - 2 p.m., in the Martha-Ellen Tye Recital Hall, Music Building. The event is free and open to the public.

The music is written by Anne Deane, assistant professor of music. It will become part of a larger Ashes to Ashes/Dance Driving project, which is a collaborative work between Deane; Carolina Cruz-Neira, associate professor of industrial and manufacturing systems engineering and associate director of the Virtual Reality Applications Center; and Valerie Williams, director of the Co'Motion Dance Theater, Ames. The project aims to develop and deploy an interactive immersive sonic, dance and computer animation environment.

"We hope that sharing this music and eyewitness stories will provide a cathartic vehicle for the Iowa State and Ames communities," Deane said. "People will be free to come and go during the presentation of the musical excerpts that will eventually be part of the C6 virtual reality environment."
