A GIFT IDEA THAT OUTSHINES THE OTHERS

AMES, Iowa -- Stuck for a holiday gift idea? Are you looking for something that is distinctive, exudes high tech and can power a light-weight futuristic car? If you are, then maybe Team PrISUm's adopt-a-solar cell program is for you.

For $25 you can adopt one of the solar cells that will power ISU's Cynergy solar car, which will take part in Sunrayce97. Sunrayce is a biennial north American solar car race that is open to college and university students.

Iowa State's solar car team currently is trying to retool their Cynergy car, which had an accident during the last leg of Sunrayce95. As a result, the entire solar array will have to be replaced, the cost of which can be as high as $20,000.

"Taking part in the adopt-a-solar cell program will allow Iowans to become part of the race team," says Team PrISUm director Beth Hunter. "When you adopt a cell we will provide you with a certificate showing the location of your cell on the solar array and you will get regular project updates."
