JONES NAMED REGISTRAR AT ISU

AMES, Iowa -- Kathleen Jones, Iowa State University associate registrar, has been named university registrar. The appointment will be effective Oct. 1.

The responsibilities of the Office of the Registrar are to register students in their courses, maintain records for current and former students, evaluate the graduation status of students, coordinate commencement ceremonies, and transmit information about student enrollment and academic records to appropriate offices and persons.

"As university registrar, Kathy Jones will continue her history of outstanding, dedicated service to Iowa State and the registrar's office," said Thomas Thielen, vice president for student affairs.

Jones has been associate registrar for systems and records at ISU since 1995. Among the positions she held since joining ISU's Office of the Registrar in 1972 are assistant registrar, from 1976 to 1987, and associate registrar for scheduling, from 1987 to 1995.

Jones received her B.S. in mathematics from Iowa State in 1972. She also received an M.S. in professional studies in education, specializing in higher education, from ISU in 1978 and is currently a Ph.D. candidate in the same area.

Jones succeeds John Sjoblom, who retired on June 30. Her salary will be $67,000.
