ISU ROAD SCHOLARS TOURS TO VISIT SOUTHEAST AND SOUTH CENTRAL IOWA

AMES, Iowa -- Iowa State University President Martin Jischke and Provost John Kozak will lead 61 new ISU faculty and staff on two-day Road Scholars tours of southeast and south central Iowa April 26 and 27.

The two groups will depart from Iowa State's Memorial Union early Friday, April 26. The group led by Jischke will travel to southeast Iowa, and the group led by Kozak will travel to south central Iowa.

The purpose of the Road Scholars tour is to introduce new faculty and staff to the state of Iowa. The tour groups travel the state by bus, visiting schools, businesses and farms. Iowa stops will include Des Moines, Indianola, Osceola, Lamoni, Newton, Pella, Eddyville and Ottumwa.

Attached are itineraries for both Iowa Road Scholars tours. You are welcome to join the groups at any point during either tour. The schedules are tight. If you would like to interview members of a tour group, you may want to do so while riding the tour bus for a short distance. John Anderson, interim director of ISU's University Relations, will accompany Jischke on the southeast Iowa tour. Michelle Johnson, ISU News Service writer, will be on the south central Iowa tour with Kozak. They can assist you in meeting tour members or making other arrangements. Friday, April 26

8:00 a.m Leave from Ames for Newton.

9:15 a.m. Visit the DMACC Newton Polytechnic campus.

11:00 a.m. Depart from Newton for Pella.

11:30 a.m. Lunch at the Pella Opera House.

1:00 p.m Visit Pella Christian High School.

2:00 p.m. Visit Vermeer Manufacturing.

3:30 p.m. Depart from Pella for Eddyville.

4:15 p.m. Drive through Eddyville industrial complex
including Cargill Inc., Ajinomoto USA Inc.,
and Lysine industrial sites.

4:45 p.m. Depart from Eddyville for Ottumwa.

5:00 p.m. Arrive at Fairfield Inn, Ottumwa.

5:30 p.m. Alumni reception at the Ottumwa Country Club.

Saturday, April 27

7:30 a.m. Breakfast at Indian Hills Community College.

9:00 a.m. Depart from Ottumwa for Oskaloosa.

9:30 a.m. Drive through Fox Ag. Inc., located two
miles northeast of Oskaloosa. Also, visit
the Don and Bonnie Vos farm.

10:45 a.m. Depart from the Vos farm for New Sharon.

11:05 a.m. Visit DeJong Manufacturing, located north
of New Sharon.

11:30 a.m. Depart from Oskaloosa for Ankeny.

12:45 p.m. Lunch at Chips, outside of Ankeny. (This
tour will be joined by the other tour.)

2:00 p.m. Arrive at Tone's in the Ankeny Business
Park. Assemble in conference center for welcome
by Ricardo Alvarez, Tone's president, and John
Voigt, mayor of Ankeny. Overview of Burns
Philip Food Inc. and Tone's operations.

2:30 p.m. Tour of Tone's and return to conference
center for panel discussion.

3:45 p.m. Drive-through tour of DMACC-Ankeny campus.

4:00 p.m. Refreshment stop at the ISU Extension Outreach
Center.

11:30 a.m. Lunch at Sister's Tea Room, Indianola.

1:00 p.m. Depart from Indianola for Osceola.

2:00 p.m. Tour Paul Mueller Company.

3:15 p.m. Depart from Osceola for Lamoni.

4:00 p.m. Walking tour of Graceland College.

5:00 p.m. Drive to Liberty Hall Historic Center.

5:30 p.m. Historical tour and program by members of
the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of
the Latter Day Saints.

6:30 p.m. Arrive at hotel.

Saturday, April 27

and administrators at the Carmichael House.

9:00 a.m. Leave for Dan Golightly farm, located off
I-35 in Warren County.

10:00 a.m. Arrive at Golightly farm.

11:15 a.m. Depart from farm site for Ankeny.

12:30 p.m. Lunch at Chips, outside of Ankeny. (This
tour will be joined by the other tour.)

2:00 p.m. Arrive at Tone's in the Ankeny
