ISU ROAD SCHOLARS TOUR TO VISIT NORTHEAST IOWA OCT. 4-5

AMES, Iowa -- Iowa State University President Martin Jischke will lead 36 new ISU faculty and staff and three ISU students on a two-day Road Scholars tour of northeast Iowa, Oct. 4 and 5.

The purpose of the Road Scholars tour is to introduce new faculty and staff to the state of Iowa. The tour group travels the state by bus, visiting schools, businesses and farms. Tour stops will include Tama, Grundy Center, Waterloo, Waverly and Marshalltown.

Attached is the itinerary for the northeast Iowa Road Scholars tour. You are welcome to join the group at any point during the tour. The schedule is tight. If you would like to interview members of the tour group, you may want to do so while riding the tour bus for a short distance. John Anderson, interim director of ISU's University Relations, will accompany President Jischke on the tour. He can assist you in meeting tour members or making other arrangements. Northeast Iowa Road Scholars Tour

Friday, Oct. 4

7:45 a.m.      Leave Ames for Tama.

9:00 a.m. Arrive in Tama. Visit South Tama County High
School. Meet with Principal Steven Burr.

10:00 a.m. Depart Tama for Grundy Center.

11:00 a.m. Arrive at the Grundy County Courthouse
in Grundy Center. Marilyn Hawn, president
of the Grundy Center Chamber of Commerce,
will talk about the "Silos and Smokestacks"
project.

11:30 p.m. Depart Grundy Center for Waterloo.

12:00 p.m. Arrive in Waterloo. Lunch at John Deere
Product Engineering Center.

1:00 p.m. Tour the John Deere Product Engineering
Center.

2:45 p.m. Depart John Deere.

3:00 p.m. Visit the Waterloo Recreation and Arts
Center. Tour the center's art gallery.

4:30 p.m. Arrive at the Holiday Inn, Fourth and
Commercial, Waterloo.

Saturday, Oct. 5

7:30 a.m. Depart Waterloo for Waverly.

8:00 a.m. Breakfast at the Castle Room, Wartburg
College, Waverly. Meet with Wartburg
President Robert Vogel.

10:00 a.m. Visit the Big Marsh Wildlife Management
Area, located south of Allison, in
Butler County.

10:30 a.m. Travel to Ottilie Farms, Inc. and Ottilie RO
Seed, located north of Marshalltown
on Highway 14.

11:30 a.m. Visit and tour the seed farm operation.

12:45 p.m. Depart for Marshalltown.

1:00 p.m. Lunch at the Marshall County Extension
Office, Marshalltown.

2:00 p.m. Travel to the Lee and Cheryl Searle farm,
on the east edge of Marshalltown.

2:30 p.m. Visit the farm.

3:45 p.m. Depart for Ames.

4:30 p.m. Arrive in Ames.
