STATEMENT FROM MARTIN JISCHKE, PRESIDENT, IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY, CONCERNING THE ASSAULT ON A STUDENT SECURITY OFFICER THE MORNING OF FRIDAY, OCTOBER 18, 1996:

"I am absolutely outraged and deeply saddened by this incident. It is totally inconsistent with what this university and this community stand for. We will not tolerate this kind of vile and appalling action. We are doing all we can to find who is responsible and we will prosecute them to the fullest extent.

"We are asking for the public's help in solving this crime. We are offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of any of those individuals responsible. I urge anyone with information to contact the ISU Department of Public Safety at 294-4428.

"I would also ask that the people of this university community remain calm in light of this incident. It's important that we not let the stupidity and hatefulness of a few cause more damage to our community."
