ISU'S CATT CENTER SPONSORS STUDENT WORKSHOP

AMES, Iowa -- Iowa State University's Carrie Chapman Catt Center for Women and Politics will sponsor its fourth annual summer workshop for high school students, July 24-27.

This year's workshop, "Making A Difference: Focus on Tomorrow's Leaders," is designed to teach high school students about the political system and leadership skills. The conference will feature a campaign school led by Democratic and Republican party officials; an examination of the campaign process with political candidates and members of their staffs; a media panel that will examine how the media portrays female candidates; and sessions on political advertising, election forecasting and campaigning in cyberspace. Iowa Lt. Gov. Joy Corning will be the keynote speaker at an awards luncheon on Saturday, July 27.

The cost per student for the four-day workshop is $150, which includes room, meals and materials. There is a $25 registration fee. Space is limited. High school sophomores, juniors and seniors interested in participating in the conference should submit a two- page essay explaining their interest in politics and the names of two references to Janet Gardner, Continuing Education, 102 Scheman Building, ISU, Ames, IA 50011-1112.
