CHILD CARE FACILITY DESIGN OKED

AMES, Iowa -- The design for a new child care facility received State Board of Regents approval during an April 15 meeting in Cedar Falls.

The 7,900-square-foot facility will be located in "walnut woods" near the Veterinary Medicine complex, southeast of ISU's central campus. It is designed to accommodate 84 children ranging from infants to school-age.

Representatives from Baldwin White Architects, Des Moines, made a presentation to the Board, detailing the building's design and describing it's objectives.

The building will have four child program areas organized along a central "spine" and will provide maximum exterior wall exposure and direct access to the playground. Artwork will be integrated into various elements of the building and will encourage the children to explore the facility. Exterior play spaces will challenge a child's large motor development skills and encourage cognitive, social and creative play.

Cost of the project will be approximately $1.46 million.
