MITCHELL IS NAMED PRESIDENT OF ISU FOUNDATION
AMES, Iowa -- Thomas J. Mitchell has been named president of the Iowa State University Foundation. Mitchell, who has been vice president for development and university relations at Northern Illinois University, De Kalb, will start by Feb. 1, 1997.
"We are extremely pleased that Tom has agreed to lead the ISU Foundation," said External Affairs Vice President Murray Blackwelder. "This is a very important time for the foundation, which is in the midst of the largest capital campaign ever for Iowa State. Tom has the ability and experience to direct this large campaign and enhance the foundation's drive for the $300 million goal of Campaign Destiny."
Campaign Destiny, launched in September, is focused on providing funds for teaching, research and outreach so ISU can reach its goal of becoming the best land-grant university in the nation.
Mitchell has been at Northern Illinois University since 1990 and has been the vice president for development and university relations and the foundation president since 1994. In this position he has been responsible for overall planning and administration of nine departments including Alumni Relations, Development, Public Affairs and Special Events.
Previously, Mitchell was the acting director for development and university relations and foundation executive director.
Mitchell has a B.S. in physical education and business administration (1977) from Southeast Missouri State University, Cape Girardeau, and an M.S. in educational administration (1990) from the University of Nebraska. He is scheduled to complete his Ph.D. in leadership and educational policy studies from Northern Illinois University in 1997.
The position of president of the ISU Foundation was previously held by Murray Blackwelder.
