SCIENCE AND GOVERNMENT EXPERT GREENBERG TO SPEAK AT ISU

AMES, Iowa -- Daniel S. Greenberg, editor and publisher of Science & Government Report, will give the first of three Presidential Lectures at Iowa State, 7:30 p.m., Monday, Dec. 16. The lecture will focus on Iowa State and the changing world of research and will be held in the Great Hall of the Memorial Union.

Greenberg has investigated and reported on the relationship between science and government for more than 30 years. He is considered one of the leading authorities on federally funded research and how changes in Washington, D.C., affect this funding.

"We are pleased and honored to have Dan Greenberg come and tell us what to expect in terms of federal funding and the climate in Washington," said Iowa State University President Martin Jischke. "Dan Greenberg is one of most respected science and government watchers today. His insights will be of great benefit as we navigate through the changing world of government sponsored research."

Science & Government Report received the National Press Foundation's Outstanding Journalism Award for Investigative Reporting for Newsletters in 1988. Greenberg also writes a column on science and health for the Washington Post and other papers, and is a correspondent for the British journal The Lancet. Greenberg's articles have appeared in the New York Times Magazine, Smithsonian, Discover, U.S. News & World Report, Le Monde and Nature.

He is the author of The Politics of Pure Science, which detailed how the post-World War II federally funded research establishment operated. He began Science & Government Report in 1971, after being a reporter for Science, the magazine of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and for the Washington Post.
