ISU TO SEEK PUBLIC INPUT ON MURAL PROJECT

AMES, Iowa -- Iowa State University is holding a public forum on a new mural project being done in conjunction with the state's sesquicentennial. The forum will be Thursday, April 18, from noon to 1 p.m. in the Brunnier Art Museum in the Scheman Building.

Doug Shelton, a Des Moines native now living in Tucson, Ariz., has been commissioned to create the mural. Shelton will take the same approach as artist Grant Wood did when he created the murals in the Parks Library in the 1930s. Shelton will design the new mural, which will then be painted by him, a group of ISU students and ISU art and design faculty members Donna Friedman and Brenda Jones.

The mural will celebrate Iowa State's past, as well as depict a vision for ISU's future as a land-grant university, said Lynette Pohlman, University Museums director. Shelton will seek public input on the mural's design at the forum.

The Brunnier Art Museum is located on the top floor of the Scheman Building in the Iowa State Center. Admission is free. Call (515) 294-3342 for more information.
