ISU PROFESSOR NAMED DISTINGUISHED FELLOW OF AFCPE

AMES, Iowa -- Tahira Hira, Iowa State University professor of human development and family studies, was recently elected the first distinguished fellow of the Association for Financial Counseling and Planning Education (AFCPE).

The founding president of AFCPE, Hira is a nationally recognized expert on personal finance and consumer debt. The AFCPE distinguished fellow award recognizes Hira's long-standing service to AFCPE, her leadership in financial counseling and planning education and her high standards of professional and ethical conduct.

Hira founded Iowa State's Family Financial Counseling Clinic and developed several financial management courses. She has also written numerous articles on family financial planning, bankruptcy and consumer credit.

Hira received the Distinguished Fellow of AFCPE award at the organization's annual conference Nov. 16 in Grand Rapids. Mich.
