STATEMENT FROM MARTIN JISCHKE,
PRESIDENT OF IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY

The death of a young man early Sunday morning near the campus saddens all of us associated with Iowa State University and the greater Ames community. On behalf of Iowa State, I want to extend our sympathy to the family of the victim.

The investigation of the death is being conducted by the Ames Police Department with assistance from the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation. I strongly encourage anyone who may have knowledge of the incident to provide the information to the Ames Police Department.

This tragedy appears to be an isolated incident, and it would not be appropriate to associate it with the Veishea celebration. Veishea attracted thousands of people to the campus and surrounding areas. It was well-organized and appears to have functioned well. At this time, our focus is on the investigation.
