RICHARD HOFFMANN NAMED INTERIM LAS DEAN AT IOWA STATE

AMES, Iowa -- Richard Hoffmann, professor of zoology and genetics and associate dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Iowa State University, has been named interim dean of the LAS college by ISU Provost John Kozak. Hoffmann's appointment begins Aug. 25.

Hoffmann succeeds Elizabeth Hoffman, who is the new provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs at the University of Illinois, Chicago. Elizabeth Hoffman has served as LAS dean since July 1993.

"The college will be in expert hands under Dick Hoffmann's guidance," Kozak said. "It is important to keep the programs of the college on course and to provide full and clear support for faculty and staff, and he will provide that leadership."

Richard Hoffmann joined the ISU faculty in 1980. He has been involved in developing interdepartmental graduate programs in ecology and evolutionary biology and genetics. His research is in population biology, evolutionary genetics and marine biology. He has served as an associate dean of the college since 1993.

Hoffmann received a B.S. degree in biology at the College of William & Mary, Williamsburg, Va.; and M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in biological science from Stanford University, California.

Information on the search for a permanent dean will be announced at a later date.
