NEW ISU CHILD CARE CENTER TO OPEN IN EARLY AUGUST

AMES, Iowa -- Enrollment is under way for the new Iowa State University Child Care Center at Veterinary Medicine, scheduled to open in early August.

The 8,000-square-foot center is located in the Walnut Woods area on the Veterinary Medicine complex, southeast of central campus. The center has been designed with residential character, featuring window seats, lofts and porches. The center also has an outdoor playspace that incorporates the natural surroundings.

"This new center offers a beautiful setting in which children can learn and grow," said Sonia Johnson, coordinator of university child care services. "It is a great benefit to Iowa State families."

Full-time, part-time and drop-in care for 84 infant through school-aged children will be provided at the center.

Hours for the center will be 7 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Monthly tuition will be based on gross family income.

The university has contracted with Bright Horizons, a national provider of work-site child care, to manage the new center. Bright Horizons has a network of more than 135 centers in 26 states, including the Eagle's Loft in Ames and the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics Child Care Center in Iowa City.

The new center is open only to ISU faculty, staff and student families. For enrollment information, call (515) 294-2273 by Monday, July 14. Enrollment will continue after July 14 if space still is available.
