FIRE FORCES EVACUATION OF LARCH HALL ON ISU CAMPUS

AMES, IA -- Fire gutted a third-floor Larch Hall room at Iowa State University Saturday (Nov. 1) afternoon, requiring the evacuation of the residence hall. No injuries occurred, but smoke damage has forced about 60 third-floor students to be relocated to other rooms within the ISU residence hall system.

Fire was reported at 1:59 p.m. in room 3325. The Ames Fire Department contained the fire to the room.

Because of smoke damage, a decision will be made at about 7 p.m. whether residents of the building's upper levels, floors four through eight, will be allowed to return to their rooms tonight.

The cause of the fire and a damage estimate have yet to be determined.
