'OH MY GOURD! THOSE STUDENTS
ARE SMASHING PUMPKINS AGAIN!
AND ON ELECTION DAY, TOO!'

AMES, Iowa -- On Tuesday, Nov. 4, votes will be cast and pumpkins will be smashed.

For the second year in a row, design professor Bill Boon has challenged his students to come up with creative and humorous ways to smash pumpkins. The gourd pulverizing will begin at 2 p.m. in Lot D4 of the Iowa State Center parking area.

Hundreds of students will work individually or in teams to come up with pumpkin smashing strategies.

"We've ruled out sledge hammers. That would be too easy," said Boon.
