REIMAN KICKS OFF ENTREPRENEURIAL LECTURE SERIES OCT. 24

AMES, Iowa -- For most, a basement is nothing more than a place to store junk. For entrepreneur Roy Reiman, Greendale, Wis., it was the birthplace of a company that now employs more than 500 people and publishes nine national magazines.

Reiman will visit the Iowa State University campus to speak on "The 21st Century Entrepreneur" Friday, Oct. 24, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in the Benton Auditorium of the Scheman Continuing Education Building, Iowa State Center.

The presentation will kick off the Reiman Entrepreneurial Lecture Series established through a significant gift last December from Reiman and wife Bobbi. The series will bring locally and nationally known entrepreneurs to campus to visit with ISU students, faculty, staff and members of the community. The lecture series is part of ISU's Pappajohn Center for Entrepreneurship.

During his visit to the ISU campus, Reiman also will speak on entrepreneurship and sales techniques to marketing students in the College of Business and meet with university officials and Pappajohn Center staff.

The Reimans are longtime supporters of Iowa State. In 1996, they endowed the Reiman Scholars in Entrepreneurship program, which enables students interested in entrepreneurial careers to perform summer internships with start-up companies. A gift to ISU in 1993 launched construction of the Reiman Gardens, ISU's horticulture gardens.

Roy Reiman is a 1957 graduate of Iowa State in agricultural journalism. He was named publisher of the year in 1991 by Magazine Weekly and Wisconsin's Master Entrepreneur in 1992. His Reiman Publications Ltd. specializes in publications on the home, family, food, nostalgia and a country lifestyle.
