ROTHSCHILD AWARDED RANK OF FELLOW IN AAAS

AMES, Iowa -- Max F. Rothschild, professor of animal science at Iowa State University, has been awarded the distinction of fellow by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).

Rothschild was recognized for his work with gene identification and gene mapping of the pig, especially his work in discovering major genes influencing litter size. He is the coordinator of the U.S. Department of Agriculture's U.S. Pig Gene Mapping project.

A member of the ISU faculty since 1980, Rothschild was one of 16 AAAS members bestowed with the rank of fellow in 1997 in the Agriculture, Food and Renewable Resources section. A total of 270 scientists and engineers were named fellows in 1997.

Rothschild and other new fellows will be recognized at the 1998 AAAS Annual Meeting in Philadelphia in February.

AAAS was founded in 1848 and is the world's largest federation of scientific and engineering societies with more than 142,000 members.
