ISU OFFERS STUDY PROGRAM IN LONDON

AMES, Iowa -- A new program at Iowa State University will give students the opportunity to study and gain career- related work experience while living in Britain.

Students will spend the first two weeks of the new Britain program in a three-credit career development course taught in London. The course will address the job search process and help students strengthen their career development skills. It will be taught by faculty and staff from Iowa State and the University of Westminster. The course also will include several cultural trips in and around London.

Following the two-week course, students can obtain a work permit authorizing them to find career-related jobs in England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland. Students can work overseas for up to six months. ISU alumni living in London will help students secure housing and employment following the course.

"The program is unique in that it is the only study abroad program offering paid career-related work," said Steve Kravinsky, director of the Career Services Office for ISU's College of Business and College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. "The program is a terrific opportunity for students to expand their educational experience at Iowa State."

Cost of the two-week program is about $1,300, which includes tuition, a work permit, housing and the cultural trips. The two-week course will run from May 16-30. Deadline for application is Feb. 15.

Applications can be obtained from the Study Abroad Center, 5 Hamilton Hall; the Career Services Office, 204 Engineering Annex; or by calling Steve Kravinsky, (515) 294-2542.
