TRANSPORTATION AND LOGISTICS EXPERT TO PRESENT ISU VOORHEES, MILLER LECTURES

AMES, Iowa -- Bernard J. La Londe, professor emeritus, Ohio State University, will present the fifth annual R. Dale Voorhees Distinguished Lecture and the Spring 1997 Miller Lecture at Iowa State University April 24 and 25, respectively.

The Voorhees Lecture will be held from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. in room 250 of the Scheman Continuing Education Building. La Londe's talk is titled "Logistics or Supply Chain Management? -- Visions for the 21st Century." A reception will follow the presentation.

The Miller Lecture will be held from 2:15 to 3:30 p.m. in room 205 of Carver Hall.

La Londe will present "Supply Chain Management: Some Research Propositions for the 21st Century."

La Londe joined Ohio State University in 1969 as a professor of marketing and logistics. From 1983 until his retirement from Ohio State in 1995, La Londe held the Raymond E. Mason Professorship in Transportation and Logistics. La Londe is nationally and internationally recognized as an expert in supply chain management and logistics.

Supply chain management concerns the total flow of goods and information in a logistics channel from supplier to ultimate customer.

The Voorhees Lecture Series was established in 1991 to honor R. Dale Voorhees, a professor emeritus in ISU's College of Business. Voorhees joined the Iowa State faculty in 1971 after serving 30 years as an officer in the U.S. Air Force, retiring with the rank of Colonel. While at Iowa State, he taught courses in transportation and logistics and maintained a number of different research activities.

The Miller Departmental Lecture Series is funded through earnings from the Miller Endowment Trust. F. Wendell Miller was a Rockwell City attorney and farm manager who died in 1995 at the age of 97. His will stipulated that the bulk of his estimated $27 million estate be used to create the trust, with income from the trust to be divided equally between Iowa State and the University of Iowa.
