WOI FM TO BROADCAST DES MOINES SYMPHONY CONCERT ON ISU'S CENTRAL CAMPUS

AMES, Iowa -- "A Concert on the Green," a performance by the Des Moines Symphony Monday, Aug. 25, on Iowa State University's central campus, will be broadcast live over WOI FM, 90.1. The concert begins at 7 p.m.

The symphony performance is a kick off to the new academic year for Iowa State faculty, staff and students.

Under the direction of Joseph Giunta, music director and conductor, the symphony will open with John Williams' "Summon the Heroes" (composed for the 1996 Olympic Games). The symphony will perform several other traditional and modern works, including a "Star Wars" medley. The concert will feature solos by ISU faculty members Joseph Messenger, a clarinetist, and David Stuart, a trombonist. The concert will conclude with the ISU Fight Song.

Concert goers are invited to bring their own lawn chairs or blankets for seating and non-alcoholic refreshments.

The concert is sponsored by the F. Wendell Miller Endowment, the ISU President's Office and the Government of the Student Body.
