ISU STUDENT ANSWER CENTER HAS GRAND OPENING

AMES, Iowa -- Iowa State University's new Student Answer Center in the lower level of Beardshear Hall will have its grand opening on Monday, Aug. 24, at 3 p.m.

ISU President Martin Jischke, Vice Presidents Tom Hill and Warren Madden and Registrar Kathleen Jones are scheduled to make brief comments at the grand opening. Anderson Erickson's new Cyclone Tailgate Sundae ice cream will be served.

Staffed by employees from the registrar, student financial aid, treasurer and university receivables offices, the student answer center is a pilot project aimed at helping students find answers to their questions about attending Iowa State. The Student Answer Center provides an outlet for many student services, such as turning in a graduation application, obtaining a PIN number for AccessPlus, submitting a transcript request, updating address information or getting financial aid help. The center also will help students learn how to find answers on their own through such resources as the AccessPlus kiosk, the ISU Web site and other university officials.

The effectiveness of the pilot project will be assessed as plans are developed for a permanent student help center that will be part of a Beardshear remodeling project. (The university received permission in July from the State Board of Regents to proceed with planning for a $5.7 million remodeling of the building.)
