ISU HOSTS CONFERENCE ON GOVERNMENT'S INVOLVEMENT IN THE GAMBLING BUSINESS

AMES, Iowa -- Iowa State University will host a conference on gambling on Thursday, March 26, in the Pioneer Room of ISU's Memorial Union.

The conference, "Should Government Be in the Gambling Business: Ethical, Economic and Political Considerations," will be from 3-5 p.m. It is free and open to the public. Conference topics include the state lottery, Prairie Meadows, gambling addiction and treatment, and the state as regulator and active participant.

The conference speakers will be: Richard Lippke, professor of philosophy, James Madison University, Harrisonburg, Va.; Harold Van Maanen, Republican State Legislator from Pella; Cathy Hsu, associate professor of hotel, restaurant and institution management, ISU; and Kenneth Brickman, assistant commissioner, Iowa Lottery Commission.
