CORNELIOUS ON COMMITTEE REVIEWING USDA LENDING PROGRAMS

AMES, Iowa -- Gary Cornelious, supervisor of media resources for Iowa State University's Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication and a Boone County farmer, is participating in a review of U.S. Department of Agriculture lending practices.

Cornelious is in Washington, D.C., (the week of July 13) helping review USDA lending program regulations and procedures to ensure they do not contain language that hampers participation of minorities and farmers with limited resources.

Since November, Cornelious has served on the Iowa Farm Service Agency state committee. The committee hears appeals from farmers and landowners concerning USDA programs and loans, and it provides advice and consul on new USDA programs. Cornelious also is a regional officer in the Black Farmers and Agriculturists Association.

Cornelious was in Washington, D.C., last month to witness President Clinton signing the Agricultural Research Reform Act. Cornelious is active in issues affecting both small and minority- owned farms.
