ISU'S 'CAMPAIGN DESTINY' HITS HALF-WAY MARK; $224 MILLION RAISED

AMES, Iowa -- The record-setting Campaign Destiny: To Become the Best is progressing at record speeds. At the end of December 1997 -- halfway through the five-year campaign -- contributions exceeded $224 million, three-fourths of the $300-million goal.

"Iowa State University alumni and friends have responded to Campaign Destiny with remarkable generosity," said Chuck Johnson, national campaign chairman. "The national campaign committee volunteers and I are gratified by its early success. These record-setting gifts are providing vital financial support for Iowa State's aspiration to become the best land grant university."

"In the most basic terms of financial support, this campaign shows how alumni and friends believe in helping Iowa State become the best," said ISU Foundation President Tom Mitchell. "Campaign Destiny's record pace is very strong evidence of our progress toward that goal."

Since the campaign officially was launched in September 1996, campaign goals for these 15 projects have been reached:

The $10 million campaign for university employees ended the year at almost $8.7 million.

Priorities for the campaign in 1998 include the President's Scholarship Campaign, phase two of ETRC, a new building for a Global Center for Agricultural and Rural Development, an addition to the Design Center, a business entrepreneurship initiative that would include a variety of activities to promote entrepreneurship in ISU classrooms and throughout the state, and conservation work on the historic Farm House.
