ISU PROFESSOR RECEIVES EPA EDUCATION AWARD

AMES, Iowa -- R. Thomas Tanner, Iowa State University professor of enviromental studies, has been named a recipient of the Environmental Protection Agency's 1997 Environmental Excellence Award.

The award was presented by the EPA Region 7, which covers Iowa, Missouri, Kansas and Nebraska.

Tanner was honored for his more than two decades of service to environmental education. Tanner teaches and advises undergraduates in the environmental studies program at Iowa State. He has done extensive writing on environmental studies issues, and his 1980 book on the lives of conservationists is a major reference for environmental educators.

In 1990, Tanner received the prestigious research excellence award for Outstanding Career Contributions to Research in Environmental Education from the North American Association for Environmental Education.
