RUTH GLOCK NAMED EDUCATOR OF THE YEAR

AMES, Iowa -- "Bobbin Magazine," an apparel manufacturers' trade publication, has named Ruth Glock, faculty member in Iowa State University's College of Family and Consumer Sciences' department of Textiles and Clothing, as the 1998 Educator of the Year. The award, presented at the International Textiles and Apparel Association's (ITAA) annual conference in Dallas, Texas, recognizes outstanding contributions through teaching, research or service.

Glock, a member of the ISU faculty for 21 years, is author of the textbook, "Apparel Manufacturing: Sewn Products Analysis," published by Prentice Hall. It is used by more than 90 colleges and universities world wide, as well as by apparel manufacturers.

In addition, Glock was instrumental in the development of the apparel production focus in the textiles and clothing curriculum at ISU. The program is endorsed by the American Apparel Manufacturers Association. She also has received college and university awards for advising students as well as for service to students.

Glock is a member of the AAMA Education Committee and serves on the Board of Directors of the Iowa Textiles and Apparel Association.

"Bobbin" established this award in cooperation with ITAA to recognize the contributions of faculty to the long-term success of the apparel industry. ITAA has members representing textile and apparel faculty in two- and four- year colleges, textile and apparel manufacturers, and publishers of related trade magazines.
