ISU FOUNDATION NAMES NEW GOVERNORS, BOARD MEMBERS
AMES, Iowa -- During its biannual fall meeting, the Iowa State University Foundation announced the election of four individuals to the Board of Directors and the appointment of eight individuals as Governors.
ISU Foundation Board of Directors
- Jack Cosgrove, Cedar Rapids, the president of Rockwell
Collins, a division of Rockwell International, begins his first
term to the Board of Directors. An ISU Foundation Governor since
1989, Cosgrove graduated with an electrical engineering degree
from ISU in 1956. He and wife, Dillam serve on the national
committee for "Campaign Destiny: To Become the Best." In 1986,
they were named ISU Parents of the Year. In 1987, Jack Cosgrove
received the Distinguished Alumni Citation and in 1997 was named
Cy's Favorite Alum.
- Gary Thompson, Ames, president and owner of Gary
Thompson Oil Co. and Cyclone sports broadcaster, begins his second
term to the Board of Directors. Thompson, a 1957 graduate, was
Iowa State's first two-sports All-American and in 1997, became one
of the inaugural members of its Athletic Hall of Fame. He is a
past director of the ISU Alumni Association, receiving its Young
Alumnus Recognition Award in 1970. Thompson served on the national
committee for the Partnership for Prominence Campaign.
- Diane Greenlee, Boulder, Colo., who was appointed to
the board by ISU President Martin Jischke. Greenlee and her
husband, Bob, made a $9-million challenge gift enabling ISU to
create its first named school, the Greenlee School of Journalism
and Communication. Successful venture capitalists, they have
launched several new companies including radio stations, casinos,
and the Rock Bottom Brewery Restaurant chain. The 1966 ISU
graduate serves on the Journalism Advisory Council and on the
Campaign Destiny national committee.
- Mary Beukema Harms, Ames, who serves after being past
president of the ISU Alumni Association Board of Directors. Harms
earned degrees from Iowa State in 1973, 1979 and 1989. She is a
marketing instructor in the College of Business, coordinator for
college marketing internships, and director of the "Exploring
Opportunities for Our Future Conference" for high school women.
She is owner of a gift shop, Meggie's and co-founder and former
owner of T. Galaxy. She has received numerous local and regional
honors for her entrepreneurial activities.
- Joe Baker, Johnston, also the first recipient of the
Foundation's Young Alumni Award. Baker has been an active
volunteer with his community and the College of Agriculture. In
addition, he serves on the boards of trustees for the Institute
for Transnational Arbitration and the National Symphony
Orchestra.
- Lyle Campbell, Paradise Valley, Ariz., the chief
executive officer of Founder's Bank of Arizona. Campbell has
stayed active with his alma mater since receiving a bachelor's
degree in agricultural business in 1966. In addition to being a
former Iowa State Ambassador and serving on the ISU Economics
Advisory Council, he also chaired the Chicago component of the
Partnership for Prominence Campaign.
- Marilyn Kollmorgen, Urbandale, who also brings a
history of active volunteerism with her community and Iowa State.
A 1958 household equipment graduate, Kollmorgen has assisted with
Iowa Methodist Health Foundation, Living History Farms, Urbandale
City Council, Polk County Medical Auxiliary, and the Urbandale
school board.
- Mike LaMair, Des Moines, the president and chief
executive officer of LaMair Mulock Condon. A 1956 industrial
administration graduate, LaMair has received the ISU Citation of
Achievement. An active volunteer also for the Partnership for
Prominence Campaign, LaMair serves on the College of Business
Dean's Advisory Council.
- Scott Olson, Cedar Rapids, architect and consultant
with Skogman Realty. The 1969 architecture graduate is an Iowa
State Ambassador. He served as president of the ISU Alumni
Association's Board of Directors in 1996-97.
- Sheryl Sunderman, Alamo, Calif., managing partner with
Pacific Southwest Communications Industry, Arthur Andersen
Consulting. She earned a bachelor's degree from Iowa State in
industrial administration in 1976. An active volunteer for
professional business women in California, the National
Association of Down's Syndrome, and American Field Services,
Sunderman received the College of Business Citation of Achievement
in 1977.
- Donna Whitney, Los Altos, Calif., a retired real
estate developer. President of the Whitney Education Foundation,
she serves on the ISU Foundation Board of Directors as an Alumni
Association appointee. Her late husband, Tom, earned three degrees
from ISU in the early 1960s and also was a Governor.
- Thomas Whitson, McClelland, president and chief
executive officer of Peoples National Bank. The 1963 agricultural
business graduate also served as president of the Iowa Bankers
Association from 1990-91. He received the Service "I" Award in
1974, is past president of the Omaha-Council Bluffs Alumni
Association Chapter, and served as chair of the Omaha/Council
Bluffs regional component of the Partnership for Prominence
Campaign.
