MCNEIL TO LIVE IN ISU CAMPANILE FOR FUND-RAISING EVENT; MCDONALD'S WILL MATCH DONATIONS

AMES, Iowa -- Matt McNeil, radio personality for KCCQ 105.1 FM in Ames, will be living in Iowa State University's campanile Sept. 23 and 24 for the "Bring a buck, build a home" fund-raising campaign.

The campaign is a mass appeal to ISU students, faculty and staff to raise funds for central Iowa's first Habitat for Humanity "blitz-build."

McNeil will broadcast his morning show from the campanile and continue broadcasting reports from the tower throughout each day. Volunteers will collect cash donations at several sites around campus -- west of Curtiss Hall, west of Kildee Hall, south of Parks Library, north of the campanile and in the information booth across from the Memorial Union food court.

McDonald's restaurants will match dollar-for-dollar everything raised during the two-day fund-raising event.

"We haven't met our fund-raising goal to build the house, yet," said Dirk Glynn, Homecoming '98 community service co-chair. "We're hoping we can get a lot of people to donate at least $1. Then, with the help of McDonald's, we will reach our goal."

The Habitat for Humanity house will be built by ISU students and community members during ISU's homecoming week, Oct. 5-9. The blitz-build is a joint effort of the Homecoming central committee, Story County chapter of Habitat for Humanity, ISU's George Washington Carver All-University Celebration committee and the Government of the Student Body. The exterior of the house will be built on the intramural fields east of Jack Trice Stadium. The house later will be moved to its foundation in Roland for finishing work.

Glynn said some of the Homecoming community service participants have decided to join the fund-raising efforts by holding a "2x4 sale" on Saturdays until homecoming week to raise money for the blitz-build. At selected Ames stores, community members can purchase a 2x4 board for a small price and donate the board to the construction of the house.

Persons wishing to donate funds or labor should contact the ISU Homecoming '98 office at (515) 294-0198.
