ISU OFFERS SCHOLARSHIPS FOR IOWA COMMUNITY COLLEGE STUDENTS

AMES, Iowa -- Iowa State University will award up to 100 Miller Scholarships of $1,000 each to students transferring from an Iowa community college for the 1998-1999 school year.

Miller Scholarships are for Iowa residents who have personal or financial hardship and meet the Iowa State University criteria for admission as transfer students. An application for admission to Iowa State University and the Free Application for Federal Student Aid must be received at the appropriate offices by Feb. 14. An essay of two pages or less explaining the challenges faced by the applicant should accompany the Miller Scholarship application, which is due by March 15.

Applications are available by calling Iowa State admissions at (800) 262-3810. They also are available at local extension offices or on Iowa State's web page at www.iastate.edu/~adm_info. The Miller Scholarship application can be found by clicking on "Transfer Students."

The Miller Scholarships were created in part from funds bequeathed to Iowa State by F. Wendell Miller, an attorney and farm manager who died in 1995. His will stipulated that the bulk of his estate be used to create the Miller Endowment Trust, with income from the trust to be divided equally between Iowa State and the University of
