Her professional affiliations include the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education, National Society of Fund- Raising Executives, Women in Communication, National Council on Planned Giving, and Mid-Iowa Planned Giving Council.

She serves on the board of directors of the Reiman Gardens CoHorts, and previously has served on various committees with Mainstream Living, Youth and Shelter Services, and the Mary Greeley Hospital Auxiliary.

Through their personal gifts, she and her husband, Max, belong to the Order of the Knoll, Ring of Life Society, Marston Club, and Friends of Brunnier Gallery.

"Monica's long and dedicated service is an example to all Foundation employees," said Tom Mitchell, ISU Foundation president. "Because she is very knowledgeable about planned giving and well known to so many of our alumni, Monica often is sought out for her advice and assistance."

Porter is the sixth recipient of the Governors' Award.

The ISU Foundation's mission is to secure and manage private gifts on behalf of Iowa State. Its fund-raising activities are directed by its 200-plus Governors, which includes prominent alumni and friends throughout the United States.
