ISU ANNOUNCES NEW ASSISTANT DEAN OF STUDENTS

AMES, Iowa -- Vernon A. Wall has been appointed assistant dean of students-student activities at Iowa State University. His appointment is effective Dec. 14.

As the assistant dean of students-student activities, Wall will manage the ISU Student Activities Center and work closely with student organizations, including the Government of the Student Body and Veishea. Wall succeeds Terri Houston, who left the university to pursue a doctorate in North Carolina.

Wall most recently served on the Student Life Team for the Institute for Shipboard Education (Semester at Sea), University of Pittsburgh. He was responsible for the supervision of all aspects of student life, such as student activities, recreation, and discipline.

Wall has also served in student affairs positions at the University of Georgia, Athens; the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill; and the University of North Carolina, Charlotte. He earned his B.A. in humanities from North Carolina State University, Raleigh, in 1981, and an M.S. in education from Indiana University, Bloomington, in 1983.

"Wall is recognized nationally in student affairs for his work with students, leadership, multiculturalism issues," said Kathleen MacKay, dean of students. "He is actively sought as a speaker and workshop leader around the country."
