LANGDON TO ADDRESS IOWA FAMILY BUSINESS FORUM

AMES, Iowa -- Professional financial planner Thomas Langdon will address exit strategies at the Iowa Family Business Forum September 2 and 3.

Langdon, director of the Center for Family Business Planning, has shared his expertise in business planning, estate planning and taxation nationwide by publishing four books and more than 20 articles on financial planning. At the forum, he will address such key issues as choosing a person to run the company, evaluating options (succession, buyouts, etc.) and minimizing taxes.

The Iowa Family Business Forum provides information and discussion opportunities to family members managing Iowa companies. The forum offers Iowa's family businesses the resources they need to deal with the unique problems they face.

Iowa Small Business Development Centers associate state director Lars Peterson said writing an exit strategy often isn't something people like to think about but is crucial to their business' survival.

"Ten years before is not too soon to begin planning for the future of your company. This is an issue that will affect every business someday," Peterson said.

The Iowa Family Business Forum will take place on September 2 at the Des Moines Botanical Center, in the Oak Room, from 12:30 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., and on September 3 at the Radisson Hotel in Iowa City from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.

The cost of the forum is $249 per family with an early registration discount of $25 before August 20. The Iowa Family Business Forum is open to family business owners, their families and key non-family members.

To register for the forum, call (800) 373-7232 or e-mail cspoo@iastate.edu.
