IOWA STATE DEAN NAMED CHAIRMAN OF NRC COMMITTEE

AMES, Iowa -- Dr. Benjamin Allen, dean of Iowa State University's College of Business, was recently appointed chairman of the National Research Council Committee for the Study of Freight Capacity for the Next Century.

Allen's appointment will last until Dec. 31, 2000. During this time, the committee will study projections of freight demand during the next two to three decades. It will compare those projections with estimates of available infrastructure capacity, identify possible shortfalls in capacity for efficient freight movement, and identify appropriate policy responses.

The NRC is a private, non-profit institution that provides scientific and technical advice to the government, the public and the scientific and engineering communities. Members of NRC committees serve not as representatives of the organizations or agencies by which they are employed, but as individual engineers, scientists, researchers and administrators who make available their personal knowledge and expertise in the national interest.
