NELSON NAMED DIRECTOR OF ISU STUDENT HEALTH CENTER

AMES, Iowa -- James O. Nelson, administrator of the Buena Vista County Hospital, Storm Lake, has been named director of the Iowa State University Student Health Center. Nelson will assume the position on Sept. 15.

As director of the student health center, Nelson will oversee health care services and education programming provided to ISU students, and the student health center's 65 employees.

Nelson has been Buena Vista County Hospital administrator since 1983. Prior to this, he was administrator at the Palo Alto County Hospital, Emmetsburg, from 1981-1983, and at the Story City Memorial Hospital from 1974-1981.

Nelson received a B.S. in zoology from Iowa State in 1974 and an M.A. in hospital administration from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, in 1984. In 1980, he completed an independent study program in advanced studies in health services administration at the University of Minnesota.

Former ISU Student Health Center director Dr. Robert Patterson retired in 1997. Dr. Mark Blaedel had served as interim director.
