SOLAR CAR TEAM LOANS PRISUM 2 TO WATERLOO MUSEUM

AMES, Iowa -- Iowa State University's solar car team, Team PrISUm, will loan its second solar car to the Bluedorn Science Imaginarium, a Waterloo museum. The PrISUm 2 solar car was designed and built by Iowa State students who raced it in Sunrayce 93.

PrISUm 2 finished 10th in Sunrayce 93, a race from Dallas to Minneapolis that also passed through central Iowa. The 10th place finish in Sunrayce 93 is second best only to Iowa State's 5th place finish in Sunrayce 99.

"We think this is a great opportunity to have the car that raced through Iowa be on long-term display in Waterloo," said Nick Mohr, director of Team PrISUm. "It will certainly help to get the word out about solar car racing and alternative energy technologies."

The red, tunnel-shaped car with a distinctive Cyclone painted on its nose will be transported to Waterloo on Monday, Oct. 25, Mohr said.

Iowa State students have built and raced five solar cars since 1990 and have participated in all five Sunrayce events. The team currently is designing its sixth solar car. The Bluedorn Science Imaginarium is located at 322 Washington Street in Waterloo.
