Iowa State graduate helps build a fitness community for women

Amy Kurr's first experience in the weight club wasn't great. As one of the only women, she felt intimidated and isolated in the gym. The senior in materials engineering loved fitness and lifting weights, though, so she stuck with it. She entered, and won, several powerlifting competitions, and ultimately found that community of friends she was looking for. But Kurr wanted to make sure other women who were interested in fitness didn't feel so intimidated coming to the gym. So, she started her own club for women in fitness, to help connect women who love fitness pursue their athletic dreams. And what started with just a handful of members has grown to over 60 women.
