Karl Kerns teaches a subject that wouldn't seem to need a lot of innovation. After all, biology hasn't changed much recently. But that doesn't mean that the way things are taught can't be changed. And that's exactly what Kerns is doing at Iowa State in the Animal Science program. Kerns and his team are the 1st to bring virtual anatomy tables that are popular in medical school programs into animal science classes. Kerns and his team also created an AI tutor for their course. It includes an avatar to make it look to students like they are having a virtual meeting while learning the material. It's all why Kerns is being honored with the Early Achievement in Teaching award from Iowa State.
