A chance encounter at a pet store led to a business opportunity for this ISU student

Cam Reiman and her boyfriend went to a pet store looking to buy fish. But since they weren't prepared with all the right equipment and knowledge, the pet store employee suggested they get a lizard instead. They quickly realized that some of the information they got about taking care of their lizard, named Spock, was wrong. They learned all they could to better care for their pets, and eventually realized that others needed their help as well. That led them to eventually open Spock's Sanctuary, an animal rescue and zoo focused primarily on reptiles and invertebrate animals. Spock's Sanctuary works to rescue and care for pets, while also educating the public about these animals. They even make their own specialty food blend for other reptile owners. And it's all because they left the pet store with a lizard instead of fish
