Best-selling author of "Stuff White People Like" will speak at ISU March 2

AMES, Iowa -- Christian Lander, a New York Times best-selling author who satirizes white culture, will speak at Iowa State University on Wednesday, March 2. His talk, "Stuff White People Like," will be at 8 p.m. in the Memorial Union Great Hall. It is free and open to the public.

Lander was working in corporate communications at a California interactive agency when he started his blog, "Stuff White People Like," a tongue-in-cheek list of things upper-middle-class Caucasians enjoy such as irony, having two last names, Whole Foods, kitchen gadgets, recycling and writers workshops. When the blog registered 20 million hits, Lander caught the eye of Random House, which later published his books. His most recent book, "Whiter Shades of Pale," continues his anthropological study of how to survive modern white society.

Lander has appeared on "The Early Show," "Later with Carson Daly" and "Late Night with Conan O'Brien." He has been profiled by The Atlantic, the Los Angeles Times, the Boston Globe and NPR.

Lander's talk is cosponsored by the Student Union Board and the Committee on Lectures, which is funded by the Government of the Student Body. More information on ISU lectures is available at http://www.lectures.iastate.edu, or by calling 515-294-9935.
