Constitution Day lecture will examine interpretations of free speech on campuses

AMES, Iowa — Iowa State University’s Constitution Day lecture will focus on free speech.

P.E. Moskowitz

Journalist P.E. Moskowitz will present “The Case Against Free Speech” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, in the Memorial Union Great Hall. This lecture is free and open to the public.

Moskowitz is a former staff writer for Al Jazeera America, and has written for publications including the Guardian, New York Times, New Yorker, Wired and Slate. Moskowitz created Study Hall, a weekly e-newsletter and online support network for those working in the media.

The Constitution Day lecture will be guided by Moskowitz’s new book, “The Case Against Free Speech.” The book looks at how one of our most treasured rights — free speech — is rarely the equalizer we assume it to be. Moskowitz also authored “How to Kill a City: Gentrification, Inequality, and the Fight for the Neighborhood.”

The University Book Store will be on site to sell copies of both of Moskowitz’s books.

This lecture is co-sponsored by the National Affairs series committee, First Amendment series and the Committee on Lectures, which is funded by Student Government.
