Iowa State once again named national center of excellence in information assurance

Iowa State University programs in computer security and information assurance have recently been recognized for academic excellence by two federal security agencies. This is the fourth time The National Security Agency and the Department of Homeland Security have designated Iowa State a National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education.

'Live Green!': Iowa State's conservation, sustainability efforts are moving forward

President Gregory Geoffroy has announced several new programs as part of the Live Green! initiative. They include an Office of Sustainability Programs, a revolving loan fund to support green projects and a goal to achieve LEED gold certification on new construction and major renovations on campus.

The Iowa State University student chapter of the Associated General Contractors is working to connect victims of the May 25 tornado that damaged several cities in northeast Iowa with Iowa Staters who want to help. A 'supra' new type of froth

Ames Laboratory physicists and collaborating students have found that the bubble-like arrangement of magnetic domains in superconducting lead exhibits patterns that are very similar to everyday froths like soap foam or frothed milk on a fancy coffee.

State retail sales are down 2.7 percent since 2000 according to new ReCAP report

According to a new Retail Sales Analysis & Report by ISU's Regional Capacity Analysis Program, taxable retail sales in Iowa have declined by 2.7 percent from 2000-07, while per capita sales have declined by 6 percent.

Iowa State student engineers race mini Baja car to top 20 finish

There were challenges with a muddy track and some equipment failures, but Iowa State's Mini Baja Team raced to a 16th place finish at a recent Baja SAE competition sponsored by the Society of Automotive Engineers. The team's best event was the competition's biggest, a four-hour endurance race.

Cyclone Power Pullers' 1/4 scale tractor scores big, earns third place finish

The Cyclone Power Pullers returned from the 2008 1/4 Scale Tractor Student Design Competition with a third-place finish, the team's best finish since 1998. This year's tractor, nicknamed "PestiCYde," featured five engines and 80 horsepower. The annual contest is sponsored by the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers.

Iowa State will be first U.S. host for international conference on smart home technology

Iowa State will host the sixth annual International Conference on Smart homes and health Telematics June 30 through July 2 at the Iowa State Center's Scheman Building. The conference features many of the international leaders in smart home design and is being hosted in the United States for the first time.
