Iowa State's solar car team will be honored

AMES, Iowa -- The students of Team PrISUm and their solar race car will be welcomed back to campus this week.

A reception will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 2, in Parking Lot 13, just west of Old Sweeney Hall.

The students raced the car they named Fusion nearly 2,500 miles from Austin, Texas, to Calgary, Alberta, Canada, during the North American Solar Challenge. The race ended July 27 with the Iowa State team covering the route in 71.5 hours.

That was good for third in the race's stock class behind Stanford University and the University of California Berkeley. Iowa State finished 11th overall, also trailing eight cars in the more powerful open class.
