Iowa State University offices are closed Monday, Jan. 17 in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.
At 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 16, a community gathering will be held at Collegiate United Methodist Church, 2622 Lincoln Way, Ames. "Bodies and Souls Moving for Justice" focuses on engaging King's challenges concerning racism, militarism and poverty. The Ames community will honor King at a community birthday celebration at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 17, at the Boys and Girls Club of Ames, 210 Fifth St.
Iowa State will end its King celebration on Tuesday, Jan. 25, with a lecture by Keith Beauchamp on his documentary, "The Untold Story of Emmett Till." The documentary about Till's murder was recently featured on CBS News' "60 Minutes." As a result of Beauchamp's work, the U.S. Department of Justice last year reopened the 50-year-old murder case. Beauchamp will lead an audience discussion following the documentary. The event begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Sun Room, Memorial Union.
